The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season is set to commence with a grand opening ceremony at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday, featuring performances by leading artists. The event will mark the start of the 18th edition of the tournament, with organizers promising an entertainment-filled evening ahead of the season opener.
The IPL's official social media account shared updates late Wednesday, revealing an impressive lineup of performers. Punjabi music sensation Karan Aujla is set to take the stage, delivering a high-energy performance to kick off the season. "Get ready for an electrifying start! The opening ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. IST on March 22, ahead of the first match between defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at 7:30 p.m. The toss is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Eden Gardens will not only host the opening match but also the final on May 25, marking the first time since 2015 that the venue will stage the tournament's concluding game. The 2025 IPL season will feature 74 matches across 65 days, including 12 double-headers.
Following the opening match, a double-header is scheduled for March 23, with Sunrisers Hyderabad facing Rajasthan Royals in the first game, followed by a high-stakes clash between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians. Teams like Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, and Punjab Kings will play across multiple venues, aiming to maximize fan engagement throughout the tournament.
